What is the new Google algorithm called Rankbrain?
Apart from sounding like a decomposing cerebrum (!); as far as I understand it, Google is creating an artificial intelligence built upon our searches that we make. If a visitor spends a long time on a website and keeps returning to a certain website, Google’s artificial intelligence will remember that and rank the site more favourably.
Google wants us as humans to make the choices and then the Rankbrain AI (not Insemination in veterinary terms here!) goes by what we choose.
This has very important implications for a practice website. The site has to appeal to your clients with relevant fresh and interesting content that is fully search engine optimised.
What is Hummingbird?
There are other algorithms that measure further variations with the latest algorithm (introduced in 2013 after Panda), called Hummingbird. Rankbrain is part of Google’s Hummingbird search algorithm. I love that they are always given animal names – it makes them more appealing.
Hummingbird also contains other parts with names such as Panda and Penguin designed to fight spam, Pigeon designed to improve local results, Top Heavy designed to demote ad-heavy pages, Mobile Friendly designed to reward mobile-friendly pages and Pirate designed to fight copyright infringement.
All of these prove that the best form of search engine optimisation to keep Panda, Penguin, Top Heavy, Mobile-Friendly and Pirate happy; is to have well written, ad-free, mobile friendly, updated, local and relevant content in your practice website.
